THROW another shrimp on the barbie at George Town's Australia Day celebrations.
The council will start its celebrations at 8.30am on Regent Square, with formal presentations for Australia Day award winners.
George Town Mayor Roger Broomhall said the day was set to be a blast.
"In previous years we only held the community breakfast, but this year we have decided to get more creative in the ways we can come together and celebrate what's great about living in George Town," Cr Broomhall said.
Council community events officer Rhonda O'Sign said there would also be some famous faces.
"We are fortunate this year to be granted Peter Smith as our Ambassador and we are looking forward to having him join us for this great occasion," Mrs O'Sign said.
"Following presentations, all attendees will be invited to join us for an Australian Day barbecue breakfast."
From 10.30am the George Town swimming pool will open at a reduced price for visitors on the day.
"A special entry price of $2 will apply all day for visitors to the pool - this includes entry and all slide rides," she said.
A five-kilometre fun run from the pool, along Low Head Road and back will also be a feature of the day.
"With music, a barbecue, fun games and a great atmosphere this will certainly be the place to be on Australia Day in George Town."
Registration forms for the fun run are available on the council's website at www.georgetown.tas.gov.au or from the council's offices.
