FIVE schools within the upper Tamar Valley Region will receive $30,000 throughout the next three years as part of a new business arts partnership in conjunction with a theatre project for Northern Tasmania.
Theatre North's Kids Accessing Theatre project aims to provide more school children access to professional live performances through sponsorships and private donations.
Rio Tinto Bell Bay has been announced as the first business to support the project - pledging its support of the project for the next three years.
Beaconsfield, Bridport and South George Town primary schools and Port Dalrymple and Star of the Sea will each receive $5000 a year for three years to subside transport and ticket prices.
The partnership between Theatre North and Rio Tinto has been matched by the Premier's Arts Partnership Fund, which will match funding dollar-for-dollar with the two organisations.
Rio Tinto Bell Bay general manager Ray Mostogl said he was proud to work actively to support Tasmanian communities.
"A key objective of the company's partnership with Theatre North is to increase awareness of the value of arts and theatre," Mr Mostogl said.
Theatre North general manager Robin Lohrey said they were committed to providing opportunities for students.
"This project is so exciting," Ms Lohrey said.
"We know schools are finding it difficult at the moment to send their students to external activities.
"This project helps us in a very significant way to open the door to a new world, and it's building future audiences - everyone wins."
