TWO-HUNDRED candles lined the cake for George Town's bi- centennial celebration for Governor Lachlan Macquarie last month.
The celebration, held in the town's memorial hall, featured a range of guests and traditional entertainment as the town looked back on its heritage.
George Town Council community development officer Kevin Turner said his highlight was Governor Peter Underwood's speech.
"He just had a really good talk about the role of the Governor back in the times of Macquarie, what his job is like now as well as a few jokes about North and South divides," Mr Turner said.
He said a surprising range of attendees bustled into the hall on the day.
"It was really good, there were a lot of new faces at this event," he said.
"We packed out the hall, I'm very, very happy about it - all sorts of people from George Town attended."
Music from early Tasmanian convict Alexander Lang was performed for the audience.
He said a host of local politicians were invited to the event and sadly some were unable to attend.
