Santa to return for East Tamar tradition

12 Dec, 2011 12:00 AM
SANTA will be safe from chimney burns this year as he and Mrs Claus travel with his friends from the Bell Bay Volunteer Fire Brigade.

The group will do their annual run, providing there are no fires, and give away loads of lollies to children and their families on Christmas Eve.

Lead volunteer Clive Watson said it had been a popular tradition with East Tamar families.

"There will be about six to eight volunteers who will travel with us," Mr Watson said.

"The years before last we actually ran out of lollies ... it went quite well last year - you get to see the children's faces - that's what makes it worth it."

He said they encouraged families to dress up in their festive gear on the evening as Santa was brought by.

"We don't visit houses, unless we've specifically been asked - if people want us to stop, we stop," Mr Watson said.
